The Magic of Siwa: Why we returned after just 2 months

Our first visit to Siwa Oasis in November 2024 left us speechless. What makes this remote desert sanctuary truly unique isn't just its otherworldly landscapes - it's the people. We made genuine friends there: Spyros and Nikos welcomed us with such warmth that the moment we returned to Greece, we knew we had to go back.

Just two months later, in February 2025, we found ourselves on a flight to Alexandria. After a day in the coastal city, we made the long journey back to Siwa - this time with no plans at all. We simply wanted to be there again, to reconnect with the place and people that had affected us so deeply.

There's something about Siwa that gets under your skin. The oasis has an inner energy that makes you somehow dependent on it. Perhaps it's no coincidence that the Oracle of Amun stands here - an ancient sacred site full of the same mysterious power that all oracles possessed in ancient times.

The images shared here aren't in chronological order, nor do they need explanation. They simply capture fragments of the vastly different experiences you can have in this remote yet extraordinarily unique place. From salt lakes that stretch to the horizon to narrow mud-brick alleys, from star-filled desert nights to hidden springs - Siwa contains multitudes.

Two visits in such quick succession might seem unusual, but for those who've felt Siwa's pull, it makes perfect sense. Some places you visit; others claim a piece of your soul. For us, Siwa firmly belongs in the latter category.

I’m interested in people, feelings, and moments that make you feel like you belong. I focus on street and documentary photography, staying discreet and capturing life as it is — making a photograph out of what’s already there.
